About Me
I've had a variety of careers and experience that led me to this point. My original undergraduate degree was in psychology and computer science. After a stint in the business world I added an MBA. That was followed by starting a couple of small businesses.
Later in life I decided to follow my passion - helping others to live the lives they want to live. I returned to get my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy and have been a licensed marriage and family therapist for almost 14 years. Being a therapist has been the interesting and rewarding journey that I hoped it would be.
I have a very direct style. You may enjoy working with me if you are looking for someone that can be supportive yet is not afraid to challenge you. I use an eclectic approach but all of my techniques are systemic in nature. That means I don’t believe that there is a “problem” with an individual. I view issues as existing where individuals interact with other people or their environment. I rely most heavily on Experiential approaches. However, my ultimate goal is to use the tools and methods that work best for my clients.
Along the way I’ve had the opportunity to work with adults and adolescents, individuals, couples, and families. I’m experienced with a wide variety of issues.

Therapy vs Coaching
I am only licensed in Wisconsin which means I can only provide therapy to people physically located in Wisconsin. I provide coaching services to anyone that is not physically in Wisconsin. There can be a lot of overlap between the two, especially in the way I approach my practice. There are also some differences.
I don't accept insurance. Insurance companies follow a "medical model" and allow only a limited number of sessions, based on a pathologizing diagnosis, for some course of treatment. The majority of my clients are looking for new tools, strategies, and perspectives to improve their lives and relationships not to be pathologized.
Not accepting insurance provides the flexibility to diagnose when it is beneficial to you. It provides you more privacy and you retain more control over your treatment. By paying directly, a third party is not making decisions about your care - You are in control.
What I can’t do under the coaching model is provide some of the technical services that I can as a therapist. For example, I can’t provide FMLA documentation, letters of readiness for gender affirming surgery, or formal mental health diagnoses.
In most ways, my approach to therapy and coaching are incredibly similar. Whether you receive your services in Wisconsin or in another part of the world, I’ll do my best to help you accomplish your goals!
FAQ
How do sessions work?
Sessions usually are you and me talking. My job is to help you see new perspectives as well as providing new tools and strategies. While I support you, you are the one that makes the decision for your life. There may be times that we do other activities if they will help you achieve what you'd like to achieve.
How long are sessions?
The initial session is 90 minutes to give us time to get an understanding of your goals and to learn about you. Ongoing sessions are typically 60 minutes. Longer sessions are also available.
Are sessions in-person or by video?
Sessions can be done in-person, by video, or, by phone. You choose what works for you. You can even mix and match!
How often do we need to meet?
That is really up to you and your goals. If you are actively working on one or more issues, meeting weekly or bi-weekly is often the best. Your goals, the issues, your schedule, and cost may all be factors in frequency. We'll work together to figure out the best frequency for you.
How long does it take?
It depends on several factors, such as what your goals are, how frequently you attend sessions, and how much time you work on the issue outside of session. You may start seeing changes right away, even though you haven't reached your goals.
How much does it cost?
Current rates are $165 for the initial 90-minute session. Ongoing sessions are $125 per hour. I do offer some packages of pre-paid sessions that can help reduce the per session cost. If you are concerned about cost, schedule a free 30-minute consultation and I'm happy to see if there are other ways to help.
